Pipeline Construction- An Overview

In simple words, pipeline construction is the construction using pipes. Pipelines are needed to carry a variety of materials for residential, commercial and industrial needs. It includes planning as an initial step which consists of knowing the market demand, specification of pipe and components, route selection, public consultation and land permitting.

The pipeline construction process has three different phases such as pre construction, construction and post construction. In pre construction phase, surveying, preparing the right of way, digging the trench, stringing the pipe is done. In construction phase, bending and joining the pipe, coating and positioning the pipelines, installing valves and fitting and backfilling the trench is done. And in last post construction phase, pressure testing and final clean up is done.

Pipeline construction starts with building the pipeline. Building a pipeline sounds a little difficult but it is easy to build a pipeline for household needs and commercial needs. When a pipeline is built, the construction process starts, the process of pipeline construction involves two different types of installations such as high side and low side. While determining the pipeline route, keep the geography of the pipeline installation in mind. In high side pipeline, additional pump stations may be required to move the medium along.

The main issues with the high side pipelines are materials and pressure ratings so it is necessary that pipe must have a higher pressure rating than the medium pipe to ensure adequate margin of safety. On the other hand low side pipelines are drain lines to control only the volume and weight. Building pipelines means finding the ideal path to follow, accounting for gravity moving the media and often dealing with extreme environmental conditions. Determining the right material for pipeline construction is necessary and is a combination of weighing price against functionality. Certain composite plastic materials and special metal alloys are usually specified for pipeline construction.

A pipeline can be flat or even go up hill because it is not necessary that a pipeline always has to travel downhill. Slope is also important for building pipelines for very low viscosity liquids such as oil or industries slurries. Slope is any gradual and sustained downward angle the pipeline follows so gravity can move the media to its destination. No matter what material is used for the pipe, insulation surrounding the length of the pipeline and the capability to maintain and access the pipeline is important

Additionally environmental and climate factors will impact the pipeline's construction. Heat and cold both can affect the characteristics of the pipeline as frozen water can expand and can break the pipe where as heat can affect flexible connections and joints of the pipeline.

In this regard to ground improvement for access and service roads used to construct and maintain pipelines, PRS-Neoweb geo-cells can mitigate multiple threats to pipeline integrity. The benefits of pipeline construction at PRS-Neoweb are it provides flexibility dampens vibrations and ground movement, service range from -40 C to +60 c and offers cost effective and reliable solutions with high dimensional stability.
